Finishing the Underneath
At the owners request, the underneath was stripped, sanded, all misc holes filled, colored and clear finish applied to the surfaces.
The underneath was thoroughly masked to insure that no overspray toughed the finish sanding the rest of the case had recieved. There is no finish on the rest of the case at this time, only freshly sanded bare wood.
Also t the owners request, the underneath of the sound board was lightly sanded and fresh shellac was applied
In the later photo's after finish is on the rest of the piano, it is a nice touch to then look underneath the piano and find it also very neat.
As I am finishing the bottom I am impressed with the woodworking and jointery that was done in 1868.

No CNC machines in those days.
Another view of the nice jointery.
