Here the veneer came off on large sheets. Some carefull chisel work has been done to remove more stubborn veneer. Great care was taken not to marr the original surface of the core wood. | |||||||
When as much of the veneer can be removed mechanically, the rest is steamed off. This also removes the old glue as well, leaving the original knurled surface intact. This insures a flat surface and a tight glue joint. | |||||||

The fall board was closed during the fire. This loostned all the veneer on the outer side. It peeled off easily. Later, the rest was steamed off | |||||||
Here we see a slight warp in the fall board. The moisture level had to come up slightly before gluing to insure a flat surface. | |||||||
